Coverage of the INPEX 2008 Invention Show – Day Two

There was a lot of hustle and bustle on the show floor at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center during the second day of the Invention and New Products Expo (INPEX). Along with all the exhibitors and attendees, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” was there filming and companies like Hasbro, Irwin Tools, and Tupperware were searching for ideas to add to their product lines. Of course, the main attraction, and the reason for the event itself, was the inventions. And today I could see much more. Here is a sample:

The Traybilizer (TM) is an invention designed to secure fast food restaurant cup holders in a vehicle. One possible boon for the minivan set is that one person places the Traybilizer on a mat and places the drink holders inside, securing them in place and preventing spillage.

A human-sized “sparring partner,” the Bully (TM) stands six feet tall and can throw hooks, jabs, and kicks. The inventor initially developed the Bully to help teach women to defend themselves, but says it has other training uses as well.

For the people behind the athletes, the coaches, there’s CoachGuard (TM). After watching soccer coaches on television always holding cards in their mouths, the inventor came up with a more convenient solution: a mouth guard that plugs into a headset to keep game calls secret.

Workers looking for a more efficient tool can get it with the ScrewMaster (TM), which aims to double or quadruple the speed with which a person can tighten or loosen a bolt or nut, without any additional torque. It could be a carpenter’s dream or a handyman.

A slightly more “out of the box” invention are date rings. Designed to keep things fun and relaxed, these color-coded rings can be used as unspoken communication tools for new people or long-time couples. Oh the possibilities …

Another novel idea with a clever name is For Your Ears Only. The idea: earmuffs without a band. Not only do these ear muffs not mess with a person’s hair, they also come in colors to match different hair shades, so you can’t even tell when someone is wearing them.

You know how home gym equipment can take up a lot of space, usually with minimal use? While the invisible home gym offers a convenient solution. This invention is a home gym that transforms into a recliner. A person can exercise in it one minute and relax the next.

A wife invented the RockSock (TM) for her husband who works in construction, and now he and his co-workers use them all the time. This sock not only prevents debris from entering, but also helps socks stay up and shoes tied.

One invention that can be used in conjunction with the RockSock is the Stink-eez®, an insert that removes odor and sweat from a shoe. This product is currently sold in skate shops and the inventor claims that when used correctly the Stink-eez can work for up to one year.

Another invention that means everyday inventors are just as innovative in naming their products as they are in inventing them is The Sqooshi. This patented invention is a loofah that dispenses body wash, saves space in the shower, and makes morning cleaning a little more convenient.

An ideal invention for summer when sun and storms are abundant, the windproof umbrella is a patio umbrella that automatically closes when strong winds hit. This device prevents the umbrella from flying or falling and damaging other garden furniture.

And of course, people love to invent for their pets. On vacation or out for the day? The “Worry Free” Pet Feeder provides pets with food and water for up to one week. This invention could also prevent food and water from being contaminated while sitting all day.
