Interior Design: 6 Affordable Ideas for Home Decor Accessories

So, the room is almost complete, but you’ve run out of budget for the finishing touches. Don’t leave your room hanging in almost finished limbo. Instead, use these ideas to stretch your money to the max:

  1. Photo frames: Check out the clearance section of your favorite home goods stores (or dollar stores!). I guarantee you’ll find at least one painting languishing, every time. Now, that may not always be a great framework, but sometimes it’s okay! For this to work, decide on a theme for your frames. (There are very few things more repulsive than a table full of mismatched and unrelated frames.) Suppose you have decided on black frames. Anytime you see a super cheap black frame, grab it, until you’ve racked up an odd number to fit your space. 3, 5, and 7 work best, but you can use more if you have a bigger space to fill. Because they have a common theme, they will work together as one idea, and no one will notice that one is slightly scratched or the other has a bent corner. Even regular or damaged frames will look beautiful. You could do the same with polished silver, ornate gold, or matte nickel, just to name a few that work well.

  2. pillows: Ah, my darlings… I call them “fluffy art”. Pillows add instant pattern, impact, and personality, and there’s almost no limit to where they can go: on the couch, chairs, bed, stacked or stacked on the floor, on shelves, in baskets… I even use them. in bathrooms! As with picture frames, you can find them just about anywhere, often for next to nothing. And what if there is a small tear in the seam? At 75% off, you can afford to take out your needle and thread to sew it… or not, and just turn it around so no one can see… I won’t say.

  3. Dishes: They all have them! Make them work for you all the time, not just at mealtime! Most people have several sets of dishes, some of which never see the light of day. Married people have some pretty bad things that were given to them and they never knew what to do with them. Perhaps you inherited some with great sentimental value, but that you would not necessarily have chosen for yourself. Get it all out! Serving plates make great trays on coffee tables and centerpieces in the dining room. Support a plate on a support. Place glass marbles in the bottom of mismatched wine glasses and place a votive in each. Create a flower arrangement in a bowl of soup or a cup of tea. Go crazy! (and put nuts in a bowl for an easy and healthy snack!)

  4. royal greenery: I’m not talking about fresh flower arrangements here… unless you’re blessed with a bountiful garden, then go for it! I’m talking about going out into the yard and digging through the trash. Can I tell you that there are few things I love more than sticks? They are so… architectural! One or two large branches in a vase equals instant height and drama. The rocks are beautiful lining a plate (back to the plates) with a couple of candles. Fill a container or basket with pineapples. Put some moss and a couple of wildflowers in a jar and make a terrarium.

  5. Books: Books are my EVER favorite decorating tool. They instantly make a room feel warmer and…smarter. Hit the thrift store and you can probably pick up hardback books for a dollar or two each. Look under your dust jackets for colors that match your space. Use them to create levels of different heights on your screens. Stack them on the coffee table. Line both standing and stacked shelves. Put them on the back of your toilet. Anywhere is fair game! Hey, they could even be read.

  6. Candles: This is only an option if you are not going to burn them or promise to replace them frequently (which defeats the economics part of this). Used candles look gross. Unused candles are precious! Line up votives or tea lights for a clean, contemporary look. Group pillars of varying heights for warmth and drama. Put them in a clear glass or glass container for instant elegance. The more you use, the more magical the effect will be!

Don’t necessarily think that dollars are the only way to even out the drama (although they can help). You are only limited by your imagination! Can’t seem to find your own diamonds in the rough?
