Masai Mara – The seventh wonder of the world

The Masai Mara National Reserve is on the lips of every tourist destined for Kenya. It is actually the reason why thousands of tourists enter the country daily from all over the world. It was recently declared the seventh wonder of the world. This Reserve is a perfect example of the savanna grasslands of the African plateau. Covering 1,500 square kilometers of grassland and bushland, it is home to the Maasai and a variety of wildlife strategically dispersed within the reserve. The most memorable attraction here is the annual migration of wild beasts in August to the vast plains of the northern Serengeti and in October crosses the Mara River to the south in search of pasture.

The entirety of this seventh wonder of the world is irrigated exclusively by the Mara River and fed by the Orare Orok River, the Keju Ronkai River and its main tributary, the Talek, plus a myriad of seasonal springs that crisscross this vast land, giving wild animals plenty of water for most of the season. The Masai Mara Reserve is also home to the Olpunyaia Swamp, Musiara Swamp and the Enkoiguaatet salt lick area. It provides an astonishing amount of wildlife that converges here in search of water and salt flats.

Among the wild animals that you will be treated to in the seventh word of the world are the big cats i.e. lions, cheetah and the common, albeit hard to spot, leopard. You will definitely see Masai Girrafes, elephants, zebras, baboons, jackals, hyenas, buffaloes, zebras, gazelles, black rhino and wildebeest. All these animals exist harmoniously and interactively within the national park. All the Lodges spread throughout the Masai Mara will offer wildlife tours and nature walks but I would advise you to arrange your tour with a tour company like Bushtroop Safaris in Nairobi. With its trained staff, your tour in the seventh word of the world will be a memorable event.

The seventh word in the world is not an isolated jungle. You will be treated to a good number of accommodations, tents and clubs with entertainment galore. These lodges and clubs have been built to blend in with the environment, with tented camps perched under acasia trees, spectacular views across savannah grasslands and nice panoramic views of mountain ranges within view. Most of the lodges have even been built to resemble the Maasai farm, such as Mara Sopa Lodge, Mara Serena Lodge, and Kitchwa Tembo Camp.

You can reach the seventh wonder of the world by air from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport. You can travel by road in a customized 4WD Safari Landcruiser or 7 seater mini van which can be arranged with the help of Bushtroop Safaris. Located on the 7th floor of Sonalux House, along Moi Avenue in central Nairobi. However, it is not uncommon to find some tourists who prefer to use public transport by using a Matatu From Nairobi to Narok. From where another matatu is taken from Narok to Sekanani and Talek Gates.

All said and done, you will find that the seventh wonder of the world offers a classic, warm and clear image of the grasslands of the African savannah.
